The Expanded Fandomverse - Episode 011 - "Anger Leads To Hate" with Eric Geller

Our guest this week is Mr. Eric Geller, contributor to and co-host of TheForceCast podcast.

Recently, Eric wrote an article about the online movement to save the Expanded Universe, entitled ”Anger Leads To Hate: Inside The Movement To Save The Expanded Universe”. This small but vocal subsection to Star Wars fandom has taken to Facebook and Twitter to make their disgruntled voices heard. Their goal is to have the EU, or Legends as it is now known, to be continued; to have it live alongside the new canon, as a separate Star Wars universe.

Here on the Expanded Universe, we’ve talked about this topic from time to time, but never in depth. Well, after I read Eric’s article, and saw that it had gone viral, I knew we had to have him on the show. And boy, am I glad we did! We had an interesting conversation. I’ve listened to it twice already, and I got new things out of it each time. —- Do yourself a favor and read Eric’s article before listening to the show! It can be found at

Besides our talk with Eric, this week we cover the news coming out of the New York ComicCon, we remind you that you only have a few days left to win the latest Jason’s Jawa Giveaway (Utinni!), and we briefly tell you about the long road we had to travel to get this weeks episode out!

Also, don’t forget, we need your input. I need to know what my “punishment” should be for losing last weeks trivia challenge! Email us, call us, or leave a comment on our site or any of our social media outlets!

As I mentioned last week, we are now going to a Wednesday release schedule.  Now, I’m sure there are some of you out there who are saying “But Wait! I’ve planned my whole Tuesday night around your show!”  Well, don’t worry, we wont let you down this week!  Tonight we are happy to bring to you another episode of Scum & Villainy: The Expanded Fandomverse After Show.

For those of you who haven’t heard an episode of Scum & Villainy before, let me tell you a little bit about it.  It is just Jason and I talking.  Nothing more, nothing less.  Sure, sometimes we have special guests (in fact, we welcome ANYONE to come join us for a round of S&V!  Just contact us and ask to be on.  It’s That Simple!), but really, it’s just the two of us babbling.

Why?  Because we want to.  And because it’s fun to talk.  It lets us cover topics we wouldn’t normally cover on The Expanded Fandomverse, and we don’t censor ourselves.  We don’t get crude, but some words may be said.

So, this week, Jason and I recount our  “brush with greatness” moments, I educate Jason about the connection that Niel Diamon and ET share, and we discuss our love of NASA and our hopes for a new space race.  All this and much, much more!  So sit back, listen and enjoy.  Hopefully this will tide you over until tomorrows episode is released!

It's Our Tenth Episode

Our guest this week is Erin Neidigh, the author of “5,100 Question Mega-Ultimate Star Wars Quiz Book”. This is the largest Star Wars trivia book I have in my collection. Pick it up today, and you will have hours and hours and hours of Star Wars Trivia fun! -

Erin was a great guest. She turned the tables on Jason and I this week. Instead of our regular “Trench Run” where Jason and I quiz the guest, this time around our guest quizzed us! It just didn’t seem right you ask trivia questions of a trivia author, so we became the quizzies instead of the quizzers!

And speaking of the “Trench Run”, to make things more interesting, Jason and I decided to place a little wager on it’s outcome. Whomever lost would be required to carry out the “punishment” selected by our listeners and Erin. So, what do you think the loser needs to do? Let us know! Leave a comment, email us at, or call our hotline at 205-383-3663. All we ask is that you keep it “family friendly”.

This week we also start another round of Jason’s Jawa Giveaway (Utinni!). This time Jason is giving away a Star Wars Rebels poster and collection of pins from this years Hasbro booth at the San Diego Comic-Con! To win, all you need to do is call our hotline at 205-383-3663 and leave us your mini-review of Star Wars Rebels! One winner will be randomly selected from all participants. And, we will be using the best reviews on the show! You have until midnight October 19th to enter, so call today!

Also, I need to apologize, Dan White isnt with us to chew the power cables again this week, due to scheduling problems. I know, I know… Dan is the best part of the show! But have no fear, we will do all that we can to have Dan back again next week.

So, ten episodes down! Now what? Well, to keep things interesting, we may make a few subtle changes. I hate when we publish an episode late. From this point forth, I’m going to release the show on Wednesday, just to give myself a little breathing room. Thirty percent of the time so far I’ve needed the extra day, so… Also, every ten episodes we will be changing the Mind Probe questions. You’ll still learn a bit more about our guests as Star Wars fans, but now with some new questions. And finally, you may hear a commercial or two along the way now. Sorry, we have to. We’re not looking to make big money, we just want to the show to pay for itself.

Thanks for listening for the past ten episodes. Please stick around for the next ten!

We need your help!

Each week we like to play a little game with our guests. Half the time it is a trivia based game. Our guest this week is going to be Erin Neidigh, author of the new book “5,100 Question Mega-Ultimate Star Wars Quiz Book”. (Click the link to purchase the book!)

Well, it didn’t…

The Expanded Fandomverse - EPISODE 009 - ALLEN VOIVOD or "Dan Says It's Ebola"

We promised you a new show on Tuesday, and here we are, just under the wire, delivering you a new show on Tuesday!

This week we had the pleasure of speaking with Mr. Allen Voivod of the Star Wars Seven By Seven podcast.  This is an amazing daily podcast where he manages to squeeze in a heck of a lot into just a seven minute show.  I highly recommend making Allen’s show part of your daily Star Wars routine.  We spoke to Allen about his production process, his love of vintage Star Wars toys, being a Star Wars Dad, and all about the amazing Star Wars items you can find on Etsy!

Also in the show, Jason and I continue our “speed round” version of the news, we discuss “man caves”, and we wish our friend and show contributor Mr. Dan White well.  Dan was supposed to be “Chewing on the Power Cables” for us this week, but he has been under the weather.  Dan claims it’s Ebola, but…  Get better soon Dan, or we’ll have to have 2-1B dip you in the batch tank!

While taking a second look at the set photos from Greenham Common, I noticed something that hadn’t caught my eye before. I sent the photos to Jason, and he came right back with “Time for an episode of Scum & Villainy!”

Unfortunately, I was still at work at the time. But, the office was pretty empty, so I said what the heck. So, instead of taking a lunch hour, I took a Star Wars hour, which is all the better!

To find out what I saw, you’ll have to have a listen to the show! Visit

EPISODE 008 - TOM BERGES or "Nothing Says Merry Christmas Like A Death Squad Commander"

This weeks episode is a little late, but it’s worth the wait.  Our guest this time is Tom Berges from  We had so much fun talking to Tom, that we went a little long.  Tom was very entertaining, and we think you will get quite a few laughs out of this episode.

We also announce the latest winner of Jason’s Jawa Giveaway! (Utinni!) Was it you?  You’ll have to listen to find out if you get to take home the Darth Goofy plush toy and the selection of childrens Star Wars books.

And this week, we try something new with the news.  Lets just say that we need to work on our speed reading skills.

The Expanded Fandomverse - Episode 007 - "Another Show In The Bucket" - with Mark Dermul

This week we are happy to welcome Mark Dermul to the show.  You may not know Mark’s name, but I’m willing to bet you’ve heard of his work.  Last year, Mark and a team of friends went to Tunisia to save the Lars Homestead.  They raised money online, struggled through the heat, and rebuilt the iconic domed boyhood home of Luke Skywalker.  Mark tells us the full story, from the joke that inspired the project, how they raised the funds, to dealing with a foreign government in the midst of a revolution, to the actual physical labor in 120 degree heat.

Dan white is back this week with “Chewing On The Power Cables”.  This week Dan shares his thoughts on the topic of merchandising, a major aspect of the Star Wars experience.

We also cover this weeks top news stories, and give you one last reminder about the latest Jason’s Jawa Giveaway (Utinni!).  You only have 4 days left to qualify for an awesome kid-friendly gift pack!  Just leave us a review on iTunes, and your name will be put into our drawing.  If you are not sure how to leave a review on iTunes, please click these link for simple, step by step instructions!

Scum & Villainy: The Expanded Fandomverse After Show - Episode 002 - "The Must Be What Star Wars Is Like Overseas"

This weekend, after Jason and I finished recording, we had 30 minutes to kill before we were scheduled to interview our next guest. So, what did we do with all that free time? We babbled out way through another episode of Scum & Villainy!

We cover our love of the Radio Dramas, the fact that kids today don’t know the fun that can be had with a cassette tape, and I once again regret calling the show The Expanded Fandomverse. Enjoy!

Today’s the day. The day you help save the internet from being ruined.

Yes, you are, and we’re ready to help you.

(Long story short: The FCC is about to make a critical decision as to whether or not internet service providers have to treat all traffic equally. If they choose wrong, then the internet where anyone can start a website for any reason at all, the internet that’s been so momentous, funny, weird, and surprising—that internet could cease to exist. Here’s your chance to preserve a beautiful thing.)

The Expanded Fandomverse - Episode 006 - "Eat Fresh!" - with Nick Diak

New Episode is up!

Thank you everyone for your patience this week. This episode is a day late due to real life obligations and responsibilities. I am happy to say that I think this episode is well worth the wait!

Our guest this week is Nicholas Diak, aka Nick the Lumberjack. Nick is an artist, a SW fan and a guy who is using his love of Star Wars to give back to the world. Nick came to our attention through his current project called “Sketch Wars”, where he is posting a sketch a day of a Star Wars character, counting down until Episode VII comes out. Nick does a lot more then just his sketches. You really should take the time check out his other projects as well. I bet you will find something very enjoyable.

As we posted yesterday, we have expanded this round of Jason’s Jawa Giveaway (Utinni!) Along with the plush Darth Goofy toy, we will will also be including eighteen (yes, 18!) children’s Star Wars books. To win, all you need to do is leave us a review on iTunes. For instructions on how to do this, click and/or for instructions. —- Our show can be found on iTunes at

And as always, we cover this weeks news, tell you about the Star Wars events in our life this week, and Jason learns a lesson! Please tell us if you enjoy the show. Important Updates!

First off, I am sorry to say say that we will be not releasing a new episode today.  Typically, we publish new shows on Tuesdays.  Sadly, real life obligations and responsibilities have kept me from completing this weeks show on time.

I sincerely apologize for this inconvenience, but, I am happy to say that we will be up and running again shortly, and you can expect this weeks episode tomorrow!  So please, check back for that tomorrow!

Secondly, we are in the middle of round 2 of Jason’s Jawa Giveaway (Utinni!)! We started this new contest two weeks ago, and we have decided to extend it for two more weeks! So, there is still time for you to get into the action!

As you may know, this time around we are giving away a “Darth Goofy” plush toy.  Well, we’ve added to the prize package to now include a selection of children’s Star Wars books. This toy and these books may not be your type of thing, but they would make an excellent gift for any young Star Wars fan in your life.

To win, all you need to do is go to iTunes and leave us a review. Tell us what you think of the show, and if you do, we will put your name in the hat for our random drawing. On September 20th, we will pick one lucky name from the Stormtrooper helmet and will then send that person a box of children’s Star Wars goodies for free!

If you are not sure how to leave a review on iTunes, please click these link for simple, step by step instructions!

Good luck to you!  Please share with your friends!  We look forward to filling that helmet with lots and lots if names!

See you soon!

The Expanded Fandomverse: EPISODE 005 - HALEY SKYWALKER or "Tim Is the Daughter of a Young Girl"

With Jason’s recent fortieth birthday, we are now both officially old men.  We have both been Star Wars fans for over three decades now.  We don’t really remember a time before Star Wars.  So, we decided to seek out a new fan, a younger fan, to find out what the kids today think about that galaxy far, far away.

And where do the younglings these days go to express themselves?  To YouTube!  This is where Jason found this weeks guest, Haley Skipper, aka HaleySkywalker2.  Haley is a young lady who loves to post about her love of Star Wars, has started a podcast of her own, and is active on the fan site TheForcebook.

This week, we also have a reminder about the second of Jason’s Jawa Giveaways (Utinni!).  To win the plush Darth Goofy toy from Disney World, all you need to do is go to our iTunes page and leave a positive review.  If you post a few sentence about our show on iTunes, we will put your name in the old Stormtrooper bucket.  Then, we will pull one lucky name from the helmet as our winner.  Hurry though, time is ticking.  You have until September 6th at midnight.

Also this week, Mr. Dan White is back with “Chewing the Power Cables with Dan White”.  This time around, Dan tells us a what he thinks about life and death as it relates to Star Wars fandom.

And finally, this week we try something new!  When recording the show, Jason and I have found it is sooooo easy to just start babbling on and on about Star Wars.  It’s fun to do, but isn’t necessarily the best thing for the show.  So, we are starting an after show where we can allow ourselves to babble about Star Wars.  We are calling it “Scum & Villainy: The Expanded Fandomverse After Show”.  Its just an hour of us, along with Dan White, sitting back, relaxing, and riffing on whatever SW subject crosses our minds.

Please be aware, that while we try very hard to keep The Expanded Fandomverse rated PG, on the after show, the gloves come off, and no topic is off the table.  So, if your sensitive to certain topics and adult words, please consider yourself warned!

(Please note, that the Scum & Villainy after show will not be placed in our RSS feed, it is not actually attached to the regular show, and it is not truly after the show.  It can only be found on our website.  Thank you.)

And finally, an apology…  When we record the show, I use and external microphone that is plugged into my computer.  This microphone has an on/off switch.  Well, guess what I forgot to turn on this week?  Yup!  Luckily, the internal mic on my computer picked up my voice for the recording.  So, the audio quality is a little week this week, but please rest assured, I have learned my lesson, and the mic will be back on again next week!  Thanks for your patience.

PS - The link for the after show is…
